Life at Watpac
Safety first, every time
Safety is our number one priority. We want to ensure that everyone who leaves the workplace does so in the same manner in which they arrived – safe and well. This underpins our “Work Safe. Home Safe” campaign which empowers our employees, and those we partner with, to undertake every task in a safe manner.
We are aware that we have a responsibility to the environment and the communities in which we operate. We want to ensure the contribution we make to the communities in which we live and work is meaningful.
Our people, our success
Our people are the cornerstone of our success. Meeting the expectations of our employees and tailoring individual career paths has allowed many to achieve personal success. From graduate to project manager, we have developed numerous growth programs to nurture and enhance the capabilities of our people.
All of our employees are able to access great benefits and deals through our local network of suppliers and corporate partners. These benefits and rewards include everything from health and wellbeing to retail, travel, home improvements and finance.
Health & Wellbeing
Healthy, happy people make great things happen, which is why we are committed to ensuring the health and wellbeing of our employees.
Through our Healthy Foundations program, all of our employees have access to a range of activities including skin checks, flu shots and seminars as well as a range of counselling, financial and nutritional services via our Employee Assistance Program.
We also hold various ‘Family Days’ throughout the year as way of saying thanks to our employees and their families for the contribution and sacrifices that are made throughout the year.
Our values shape who we are as a company. They guide us in our everyday work and behaviours, in the decisions we make and how we treat each other, our clients and our stakeholders.
They empower and inspire us to create a collaborative and supportive workplace, wherever we are located across the country.
Commitment: Delivering on promises, safely.
One Team: Collaborating to accomplish a shared purpose
Inspiration: Leading by example in everything we do
Innovation: Achieving solutions that make a difference
Candour: Acting with authenticity, integrity and respect

Diverse portfolio of projects
We offer a vast portfolio of projects with a wide geographical spread. From mining services to state of the art hospitals, sporting stadia and education facilities, no two projects are the same.
We’re more than just builders and miners
Like any high performing organisation, our business is supported by a team of people across a number of professions such as marketing, finance, investor relations, human resources and information services.
Learning and Development
Our success and competitive advantage is based on the specialist skills and knowledge of our people. That is why we support continuous learning and offer a diverse range of learning and development programs for employees at all stages in their career.
Our programs are integral to building long-term, dynamic career paths for our employees and ensure they are at the cutting edge of the industries in which we operate.
Our training program includes on-the-job instruction from in-house professionals to simulation and online learning. Beyond this, we partner with specialist training organisations to develop courses that are relevant, practical and innovative. We also look beyond the construction industries for inspiration and have partnered with many of Australia’s leading academic institutions to challenge traditional ways of thinking for our middle and senior management teams.
With us, you have a real opportunity to carve out a meaningful career path and reach your professional goals. We value and nurture talent so that every employee has the opportunity to increase their level of skill and responsibility. Our employees work with respected and experienced industry leaders, participate in learning and development initiatives, and contribute to some of Australia’s most high-profile projects.
As a national company with offices in most Australian states, national secondment opportunities are available for employees.
Young Professionals Program
Our Young Professionals Program (YPP) provides early-career and graduate employees with structured support and development opportunities to build their knowledge and excel in their career.
YPP offers structured on-going training, support and a wide range of technical, professional and personal development opportunities. Apart from access to our exceptional training, support and coaching is provided through a supervisor and an appointed mentor, facilitated by a senior manager. The program is delivered nationally and brings together our graduate employees from across Australia to network with each other and our senior management team.
Apprenticeships, Traineeships, Cadetships and Graduates
Watpac believes that our future success relies on providing opportunities to the next generation of leaders – our trainees, apprentices, cadets and graduates. Through our structured programs, these employees are able to fully participate in projects across the country and learn invaluable on-the-job skills. Apprentices, trainees, cadets and graduates are also eligible to participate in the Young Professionals Program.
Traineeships, apprenticeships and graduate positions are advertised as they become available.
Cadetships are organised through partner universities offering courses in construction or engineering. These roles are designed to work in line with a cadet’s existing study commitments. As part of the program, cadets put their learning into practice by performing a wide variety of tasks on real projects. The program is structured to give cadets diverse and challenging experiences and a pathway into a construction career. You can learn about the experiences of some of our cadets here.
Diversity & Inclusion
As a leading national construction contractor, Watpac is committed to providing an inclusive workplace and an organisational culture that embraces diversity and equality.
We believe genuine diversity leads to increased business performance and an enriched culture that helps foster an environment of innovation, inspiration, candour and commitment.
Watpac has made it a priority to attract women to all types of roles within our business and to draw upon the vast and culturally diverse talent pool available to us.
Our goal is not only to be an employer of choice, but a place that embraces and accepts differences where all individuals feel valued, where they are treated fairly, and where they have the opportunity and motivation to excel in their chosen careers.
To this end we are implementing several key measures to encourage diversity and inclusion:
- Inclusion and Diversity Committee, with a designated Inclusion and Diversity Coordinator in each operating state. This committee is developing a vision, strategy and action plan to address diversity and inclusion across the Group.
- Indigenous engagement policy and development of a Reconciliation Action Plan.
- Maternity and paternity/partner leave schemes for permanent employees.
- Comprehensive Workplace Harassment and Bullying, Domestic Violence, and Diversity policies.
