Last week Leidos hosted a virtual event on ‘What is STEM anyway?’

This was a fantastic opportunity for school students, their parents, and school advisors to learn more about how STEM is applied in the working world and used at Leidos to help solve complex problems.

We heard from a Senior Software Engineer who spoke about the work Leidos do with the Bureau of Meteorology and how a Doppler collects data to predict rainfall.

We heard from the Health Chief Technology Officer about the eHealth work Leidos are doing with Department of Defence.

We also heard from a Security Operations Tooling Engineer about Cyber and the work Leidos are doing to ensure Defence’s Deployed ICT is secure.

We also had a panel discussion with some senior staff members and a current graduate. The discussion included; how these staff members got into the field and the work they are doing; words of advice; and the most interesting project they have worked on at Leidos.

We also got some great questions from the audience around how Leidos support females in STEM in a male dominated field, how important is a degree versus how much you learn on the job, and advice on how to get into the field.
