As we celebrate International Women’s Day for another year, it’s crucial to reflect on the strides we’ve made towards gender equality and the work still ahead.

This year’s theme, #InspireInclusion, encourages us to foster environments where every voice is heard and valued, especially in the world of work.

What is International Women’s Day?

International Women’s Day (IWD) is a global celebration of women’s social, economic, cultural, and political achievements. The day is a call to action for accelerating women’s equality.

It aims to raise awareness about gender equality and advocate for women’s rights.

IWD has occurred for over a century, with the first IWD gathering in 1911 supported by over a million people.

Today, IWD belongs to all groups collectively everywhere.

#InspireInclusion: A Look at This Year’s Theme

Inclusion is the foundation of a thriving workplace. It means creating environments where everyone feels respected, valued, and supported.

To inspire inclusion in our schools, workplaces, and communities, you can take action by:

  1. Reading about inclusion, what it means, and why it matters in the different environments you work and study in.

  2. Advocate for inclusive policies and practices by joining groups at school or in your local community.

  3. Speaking up when you notice something that could exclude different groups – whether at school or work.

Read more about what it means to inspire inclusion at the dedicated International Women’s Day website here.
