data-end=\"158\"><em>I&#8217;m an operation theatre technician and I work at Western Health.<\/em><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"160\" data-end=\"205\"><em>My role is an operation theatre technician.<\/em><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"207\" data-end=\"263\"><em>My role is to help prepare patients for their surgery.<\/em><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"265\" data-end=\"339\"><em>I look after the equipment and set up the operation theatre for surgery.<\/em><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"341\" data-end=\"419\"><em>Originally started as APSA, otherwise known as a patient services assistant.<\/em><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"421\" data-end=\"510\"><em>During COVID, I knew that I wanted to move on to the next career progression from APSA.<\/em><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"512\" data-end=\"662\"><em>Found out about a role called an operation theatre technician, studied for it and I was very fortunate enough to get the role whilst I was studying.<\/em><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"664\" data-end=\"757\"><em>And so by the time I&#8217;d completed my studies, I had all the experience required for the job.<\/em><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"759\" data-end=\"822\"><em>So I was very lucky to have a leg up on the rest of my class.<\/em><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"824\" data-end=\"914\"><em>Last week I had an old high school teacher as a patient, whom I haven&#8217;t seen since 2006.<\/em><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"916\" data-end=\"1072\"><em>To me, it felt very heartwarming or very awesome that, you know, he gets to see like how I&#8217;m doing and I get to catch up with him and how he&#8217;s been since.<\/em><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1074\" data-end=\"1180\"><em>So, I don&#8217;t know, it feels pretty rewarding for me to be able to help people who&#8217;ve helped me coming up.<\/em><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1182\" data-end=\"1285\"><em>Western Health actually has a few connections in which they help people get into the health industry.<\/em><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1287\" data-end=\"1436\"><em>They actually have a course that introduces people into the industry to start off as PSAs in terms of helping people with their career progression.<\/em><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1438\" data-end=\"1470\"><em>Yeah, they&#8217;re very supportive.<\/em><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1472\" data-end=\"1585\"><em>They encourage you to see where you want to go, and they do what they can to help get you where you need to be.<\/em><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1587\" data-end=\"1706\"><em>So I remember when I was APSA, quite a lot of the nurses were very supportive in terms of helping my career progress.<\/em><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1708\" data-end=\"1893\"><em>So they went and found out some of the information that I needed to become a theatre technician for me, got me in contact with the department heads about how to become a theatre tech.<\/em><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1895\" data-end=\"1965\"><em>And yeah, so I think Western Health in general is pretty supportive.<\/em><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1967\" data-end=\"2069\"><em>So through Western Health, they help progress my theatre technician career through ongoing training.<\/em><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2071\" data-end=\"2169\"><em>They&#8217;ll have you starting off with a certain specialty with all the knowledge you need for that.<\/em><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2171\" data-end=\"2302\"><em>Meaning as you add more and more specialties to your knowledge base, you continue to get more training based on the requirements.<\/em><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2304\" data-end=\"2410\"><em>So, for example, you&#8217;ll get laser safety officer training when handling lasers in the operation theatre.<\/em><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2412\" data-end=\"2446\"><em>Helping people to help yourself.<\/em><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2448\" data-end=\"2652\"><em>So what I mean by that is it&#8217;s rewarding for me to come into work every day, helping people, knowing that I can come home saying that I&#8217;ve done my part, come home feeling rewarded for a good day&#8217;s work.<\/em><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2654\" data-end=\"2755\"><em>It feels like, you know, helping other people helps me feel like I&#8217;ve accomplished something today.<\/em><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2757\" data-end=\"2801\"><em>So one would be being a good communicator.<\/em><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2803\" data-end=\"2847\"><em>Second, I would say, is a good work ethic.<\/em><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2849\" data-end=\"2885\"><em>So working hard as part of a
