Your role: <\/strong><\/p>\n

The Helicopter Mission Commander (known in the Navy as a Maritime Aviation Warfare Officer) acts as the Mission Commander on board a range of advanced Navy aircraft\u2014such as the MRH-90 and MH-60R Seahawk. During this year-long experience, immerse yourself in Navy\u2019s unique maritime aviation environment, learning about the helicopter’s navigation and weapons systems as part of the control team. Experience what life is like for those in the jump seat who play a critical role in maritime operations at sea supporting our ships and submarines.<\/p>\n

This action-packed role isn\u2019t just reserved for people that are straight out of school. It\u2019s a unique opportunity where you\u2019ll get the chance to try out a year in Navy working alongside fully qualified Helicopter Mission Commanders, all without needing any prior qualifications. The Navy Gap Year Program is a one-year commitment that takes you well beyond the ordinary to experience everything the Navy has to offer. Whether you\u2019re sailing across the seas by ship, exploring the oceans depths by submarine or soaring above by helicopter, you\u2019ll be given skills and experiences which could extend into a longer-term role in the Navy or elsewhere.<\/p>\n

Salary: <\/strong><\/p>\n

Be paid to train and upon completion of your initial military and initial employment training, you could earn a package worth $58,877.<\/p>\n

In addition to your salary, you will receive generous superannuation, housing subsidies and free medical and dental care, service and uniform allowances, as well as a Maritime Allowance (if applicable).<\/p>\n

For this role, you must have completed Year 12 level of secondary education (or equivalent) to Officer Entry standard, or if applying for UNSW\/ADFA – achieved an ATAR which would qualify you for entry into the relevant degree stream.
