Do you know the important role a Parts Interpreter plays in making an automotive business run smoothly? How about what a Costing Clerk spends their day doing?
When most people think of working at a car or truck dealership, the first thing that comes to mind might be standing in a shiny showroom selling a car or being under a hoist fixing a truck. But these roles just scratch the surface of what makes a dealership tick.
With automotive businesses across South Australia and Victoria, CMV Group offers a diverse range of long-term career opportunities. Here are just three roles you may never have heard of, each of which plays an important part in keeping our dealerships operating every day.
Parts Interpreter: Keeping our workshops moving
Ever wondered how a mechanic finds the exact part they need among the thousands of components that make up a vehicle? Parts Interpreters are the experts who can tell them! They know how to identify, source and supply the right parts to keep a vehicle moving. Whether it’s tracking down a hard-to-find component for a customer or helping technicians solve a problem, they make sure customers have the parts they need, and repairs are done on time.
This career would be great for you if you love solving puzzles, have a keen eye for detail, and enjoy learning how things work. While an interest in vehicles is helpful, success in this role comes from your strong communication, organisation and problem-solving skills. Many people who start off as Parts Interpreters go on to build long-term careers in parts management, service operations, and many other dealership roles.
Costing Clerk: Bringing the details together
Every time a vehicle gets serviced or repaired, dozens of different tasks take place behind the scenes. Costing Clerks bring together the whole story of the work done, reviewing what has happened and recording the costs of the parts and labour, to prepare detailed invoices for customers to explain what has been done and why. They work with many different teams across the dealership, especially Technicians, Parts teams and Service Advisors, to ensure every job’s story has been told and the vehicle is ready for the customer to collect.
This career would be great for you if you like working with numbers, have strong attention to detail, and can make sense of large amounts of information. The role will help you develop valuable skills in administration, customer service, and dealership operations, giving you a strong foundation for a range of career opportunities.
Sales Coordinator: Delivering the customer experience
Buying a new car or truck is the exciting part, but have you ever thought about everything that happens before you get the keys? Sales Coordinators are the ones working behind the scenes to make that happen. They plan everything from sourcing vehicles and arranging registrations to scheduling when and where extra accessories will be fitted, and preparing all the paperwork for delivery. Their job is to make sure every last detail is in place so that the customer’s vehicle is ready to hit the road when they come to collect it, working with sales teams, suppliers and customers to keep the whole delivery process running smoothly.
This career would be great for you if you love being organised, can plan ahead and juggle multiple tasks at once, and love seeing a project come together from start to finish. Sales Coordinators often develop skills that can lead to longer-term careers in sales, customer experience and administration.
