Here’s What It’s Like To Intern at Nestlé

What’s it like to intern at a company behind some of Australia’s most recognisable brands?

At Nestlé, an internship could see you working on a new product launch, collaborating with major retailers, supporting employee initiatives or getting involved in projects that have a direct impact on the business.

And depending on your interests and what you’re studying, there are plenty of different areas to explore.

We caught up with three Nestlé interns, Phoebe, Nicola and Anya, to learn a little more about their roles, the projects they’re working on and what they’ve enjoyed about their experience so far.

Meet Phoebe: From Corporate Affairs to Human Resources

Phoebe is studying a Bachelor of Commerce and Advanced Studies, majoring in International Business and Political Economy.

She originally joined Nestlé as a Corporate Affairs Intern before moving into a role in Human Resources (HR), where she’s now helping to support diversity and inclusion initiatives.

Having worked across two different departments, Phoebe has had the opportunity to experience different sides of the business.

One of the things she’s enjoyed most is the variety of people, teams and activities happening around the office.

From product launches to internal employee engagement campaigns, there’s always something going on.

And there’s another benefit she’s particularly fond of: the Nestlé staff shop, where employees can pick up their favourite products at discounted prices.

Meet Nicola: Working With Woolworths in Corporate Sales

Nicola is currently completing her Masters of Commerce, specialising in Marketing and Data.

At Nestlé, she’s part of the Corporate Sales team, working with Woolworths on a clearance optimisation project.

It’s an opportunity to put what she’s studying into practice while gaining experience working with one of Australia’s biggest retailers.

Her role also offers a look at the commercial side of Nestlé and the work that goes into managing relationships with major retail partners.

And while the professional experience is a big part of the internship, Nicola has discovered another benefit of working for Nestlé.

Free Milo samples.

According to Nicola, that’s one perk she’ll never get tired of.

Meet Anya: Getting Creative With Purina

For Anya, her internship has taken her into the world of design and digital projects.

She’s currently working with Nestlé’s Purina team, helping with website updates and preparations for an upcoming product launch.

It’s a chance to gain experience working on projects connected to a well-known pet care brand, while seeing how creative and digital work comes together within a large business.

Anya has also been making a few discoveries about Nestlé’s extensive product range.

One of her latest? Finding out that ALLEN’S Bananas are available in a value pack.

An important discovery for any lolly enthusiast.

There’s More to Nestlé Than You Might Think

When you think of Nestlé, chances are you think of brands like MILO, KitKat, Nescafé, Purina or ALLEN’S.

But behind those familiar products are people working across a wide range of different careers.

And as Phoebe, Nicola and Anya’s experiences show, you don’t necessarily need to be studying food science or nutrition to find an opportunity within the business.

There are careers across areas like HR, corporate affairs, sales, marketing, design and plenty more.

For uni students, internships can be a chance to apply what they’re learning, build professional experience and get a better understanding of what different roles involve before graduating.

They can also introduce you to career paths you might not have previously considered.

Phoebe’s experience moving from Corporate Affairs into HR is a good example of how working within a large organisation can expose you to different areas of the business.
