Computer Science Education Week (CSEdWeek) is right around the corner!
From the 5th to the 11th of December, CSEdWeek is a chance to inspire K-12 students to learn computer science, advocate for equity in computer science education, and celebrate the contributions of students, teachers, and partners to the field.
This year, the week’s theme highlights computer science education’s progress over the past decade. There have been many great advancements in making computer science education more equitable and accessible for all learners and a breakdown of the gender stereotype that has existed across this key area for years.
Computer Science: It’s For Everyone!
To highlight the many ways you can get involved in computer science – and where computer science education can take you – we’ve collated some of our favourite employee interviews from various employers.
These interviews showcase the diversity and opportunity available to ALL who want to see where computer science education could take them!
6 STEM & Computer Science Employee Stories to Explore This Week!
We are so lucky here at Explore Careers to hear from some amazing people doing incredible things in their work in the fields of STEM and computer science.
You might have already explored some of these stories, but we’re pretty confident one or two here will be new to you – and there’s always something new to take away from these talks!
Here are some of our recent favs to get stuck into:

4. Want a Career in Tech & Travel? Look No Further Than the Royal Navy!
Like most people, our ideas about working in the Navy come from watching a bunch of OTT action-packed movies – but what’s life like onboard the Defence Force?
Here to give us the full low-down is Kiah Whyte, Combat Systems Operator with the Royal Australian Navy. Kiah breaks down some key misconceptions about her role and why there’s so much you’ll take away from one of the world’s most unique careers.

5. Robots, Printers & Lasers: All in a Day’s Work for Roisin
As a teenager, Roisin imagined what an engineering career might look like — it could, she hoped, involve fun things like playing with robots, 3D printers and lasers. Today, as a graduate mechatronics engineer working in Australia’s naval shipbuilding industry, Roisin is getting to do just that.
In her role with BAE Systems Australia’s maritime division at Adelaide’s Tonsley innovation district, Roisin enjoys working with Spot the robotic dog, exploring how the technology can be best employed in the Hunter Class Frigate Program.

 6. Launch Your STEM Career From A to B With Wisetech!
Ever ordered something online? Of course, you have! In that case, there’s a pretty good chance that WiseTech Global’s software has been used to help get the product to your house!
But who is WiseTech, and what exactly do they do?
Dillon, a Software Engineer in their Data Science and Machine Learning Team, is here to clue us up. We’re not going to lie – we’re not big tech-heads here in the office, but we were hanging on Dillon’s every word about what he does – it’s pretty cool!
