Cameron Gibb – Graduate Engineer
“I’m a Graduate Engineer (Mechanical) at APA. I’m also a trade qualified automotive technician, which helped me develop understanding and hands on experience with mechanics and how things work. I was drawn to APA by their strong interest in expanding into renewables. APA’s long term visions and corporate plan impressed me and they’ve proven in recent times that they are expanding whilst competitors are shrinking.
My role has seen me involved in anything from engineering calculations to project management and I’ve experienced working in some remote locations in regional Queensland. I’ve worked in Infrastructure Development on large scale projects. And working in East Coast Grid Engineering with smaller projects has given me the opportunity to manage my own projects.
APA is committed to ensuring experience is gained in the relevant areas to ensure the APGA’s (Australian Pipelines and Gas Association’s) Pipeline engineering competencies are met, and has provided fantastic mentoring and on-the-job learning.
I enjoy working at APA for a variety of reasons. The flexible hours have been excellent and it’s great to have a company that is supportive in that way. I’ve also enjoyed social events with colleagues, such as Tough Mudder. I’ve also found that APA is quite supportive when it comes to charity events and I enjoyed taking part in Movember last year.
I see a career path at APA – I would eventually like to take on more of a leadership role in Infrastructure Development and wish to gain my Chartered status with Engineers Australia and become a professional accredited Pipeline Engineer under APGA’s new competency standards.”
