Belonging and Inclusion at RACQ
We are committed to embracing diversity in our people and to nurturing a workplace where you can be you. We celebrate difference and value the unique backgrounds, perspectives, and life experiences our people bring.
We’re on a mission to minimise the barriers people face in the workplace, so that everyone can be their authentic self. When people feel like they belong, they experience connection, security, community, and feel at home, without reservation.
We know that we have a way to go to be truly inclusive and equitable, and we know that what makes someone feel included looks different for everyone. If we want our people to feel like they belong and represent the diverse communities we serve, we’ve got things to learn and work to do. We accept the challenge to do more than ‘talk a good game’.
Learn more about our commitment and what we’re doing to build the inclusive culture we aspire to through these pages or by referring to our website.
LGBTQIA+ Inclusion
It’s important to us that everybody – including LGBTQIA+ employees – feels like they belong at RACQ. We know people with diverse genders, bodies, and/or sexualities face unique barriers to employment and workplace inclusion. We’re on a mission to minimise these barriers so all our people feel safe to be who they uniquely are at work.
In 2025, we achieved Bronze Tier Status in the Australian Workplace Equality Index (AWEI), Australia’s national benchmarking instrument for LGBTQ workplace inclusion. We are proud of this recognition of our commitment and the progress we have made to date.
Introducing resources to support our people in taking action on LGBTQIA+ inclusion and demonstrating active allyship.
Introducing paid gender affirmation leave.
Creating a gender affirmation resource that provides information and guidance for employees seeking to affirm their gender at RACQ, and leaders and employees who are supporting someone who is looking to affirm their gender at work.
Maintaining our membership with Pride in Diversity, the national not-for-profit employer support program for LGBTQ workplace inclusion that publishes the AWEI.
Accessibility and Neurodiversity
We strive to be an inclusive workplace where work and building a career is accessible for employees with disability and those who are neurodivergent.
Our Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP) guides our progress toward becoming a disability-confident workplace. To access our DIAP, please visit our website.
Partnering with JobAccess for 12 months on initiatives that put us on track to be an inclusive employer of choice for people with disability.
Providing optional Disability Confidence training to our people.
Maintaining our membership with the Australian Disability Network, working with them to build our disability capability and confidence.
Reconciliation
RACQ’s formal commitment to Reconciliation began in 2020 with the launch of our first Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP). Reconciliation calls on all of us to listen deeply, reflect honestly, and take meaningful action.
From the outset, we recognised that this journey would require ongoing learning, humility, and dedication. Our commitment remains steadfast – we continue to walk alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities, striving to build respectful relationships and drive lasting change.
Our Reconciliation journey prioritises three key areas:
Building cultural awareness and knowledge among our people.
Enhancing relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leaders, businesses and communities.
Creating economic opportunities for employment and the procurement of business.
While we recognise this is just a start, our Innovate RAP provides RACQ with a blueprint for us to make further meaningful contributions to Reconciliation in Queensland.
Gender Equality
RACQ is dedicated to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace where all genders have equal access to opportunities. The journey to gender equality is ongoing, and we are committed to making a difference and doing our part in shifting the dial.
We annually complete a gender pay gap analysis and aim to maintain a leadership gender balance of 40% women, 40% men, and 20% any gender, inclusive of diverse gender identities.
While representation in leadership and pay parity are important indicators of gender equality, we also strive to provide flexibility and support, which are embedded in our policies.
We enable our people to balance work and life through flexible working arrangements and recently made changes to our paid parental leave with the following key updates:
Increasing the paid entitlement from 13 weeks to 16 weeks.
Decreasing the qualifying period to access paid parental leave from 12 months to 6 months of continuous service.
Removing separate primary and secondary carer parental leave entitlements, replaced with equal parental leave for all parents to promote a shared, gender-neutral, and inclusive approach to caregiving responsibilities.
We measure our progress towards gender equality through annual reporting to the Workplace Gender Equality Agency, in compliance with the Workplace Gender Equality Act 2012 (Cth).
