Get a taste of life in the Australian Defence Force with a 12-month Gap Year experience. While on an Army Support Gap Year, you’ll gain skills for life in one of three rewarding support roles: Driver, Administration Assistant or Warehouse Coordinator.
The 12-month experience will arm you with the skills and knowledge to contribute to your career journey inside or outside of the Australian Defence Force. After completing the Gap Year, you’ll have the opportunity to leave or continue your Army employment in a full-time or part-time capacity.
Upon joining Gap Year, you’ll be supported throughout your training by professional and enthusiastic Army personnel, who will provide the guidance necessary for you to get the most out of this experience.
Once you’re finished your training, you’ll join a unit and provide vital support to Army teams to keep them operating at their peak while on exercise or in barracks.
This experience isn’t just reserved for people that are straight out of school. It’s a unique opportunity where you’ll get the chance to try out a year in Defence, learning how to fulfil a support role that’s unlike any other. You’ll get paid to travel and gain invaluable life and work experience, while making friendships that could last a lifetime.
One you complete your initial military training, you’ll grow your skills and expertise in one of the following roles:
- Driver where you’ll get behind the wheels of an exciting variety of high performing military vehicles, from a Mercedes Benz G-Wagon to a 110-tonne heavy equipment transporter designed to carry cargo like tanks, or
- Administration Assistant where you’ll learn to be an administration, communication and resource management specialist supporting your commanders and colleagues in barracks and on exercises, or
- Warehouse Coordinator where you’ll take on a critical warehouse management and logistics role, acquiring valuable supply chain skills and distribute state-of-the-art military equipment that most people don’t get to see.

Salary:
During your 12-month role and on completion of training, you will receive a salary starting from $69,660 plus generous 16.4% superannuation.
In addition to your salary, you will receive housing subsidies and free medical and dental care.

You must be aged between 17-24 years old to apply, an Australian Citizen and have completed Year 12, with passes in Year 10 English and Maths. Applicants interested in the Driver and Warehouse Coordinator roles require a provisional licence before they enlist.
