Job Description

Council is looking for permanent part time School Crossing Supervisors to fill newly created roles, helping ensure the safety of our community and school children. This is an important role within Council where you will be required to manage and ensure safety at school crossings and pedestrian lights. This is a great opportunity to become a valued member of the school community, assisting our children and their families to cross the road safely.

You will also:

  • Regulate traffic flow at school crossings
  • Provide assistance and advice to members of the public
  • Build rapport with school community

This is a permanent part time position with an hourly rate of $30.96 per hour + 10.5% superannuation.

This role is 2 hours per day 8-9am and 3-4pm Monday to Friday within school term only. You will also receive personal leave and annual leave due to being a permanent employee. You do not need a driver licence, but you do need to be able to get to a designated school crossing location via other reliable means.

We welcome applications from people of all abilities and backgrounds. It is essential that you can carry out the physical requirements of the role which includes standing and raising and holding the pole for extended periods of time.

Desired Skills and Experience

To thrive in this role you have:

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, particularly with children
  • Ability to instruct and direct users of school crossings in a clear and professional manner
  • Ability to work required times for the role (there may be some flexibility for job share)
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions
  • Ability to be punctual and reliable
  • Capacity to work with minimal supervision while following strict procedures and defined guidelines
  • Satisfactory pre-employment medical, police and Working with Children checks
