Your role:

Gain skills for life in a unique Gap Year as an Army Administration Assistant.

Administration Assistants are key to the smooth operation of the Army and keeping its people operating at their peak. In this role, you’ll spend 12-months experiencing life as an admin, communication, and resource management specialist.

Working in one of Australia’s largest logistics organisations, you’ll build skills to provide administration advice, deliver payroll services and more in a range of new and exciting environments. It’s not your average administration role – you’ll get to work in barracks, out in the field on exercise or even on domestic operations. Learn more about Administration Assistant here

Throughout your Gap Year program, you will be supported by professional and dedicated Army personnel, who will provide the guidance necessary for you to get the most out of this experience.

Your training will begin at Kapooka in Wagga Wagga, NSW, where you’ll complete 12 weeks of recruit training. Training will involve physical training, weapon handling and shooting, first aid, drill and field craft. It’s challenging, but it will prepare you for anything.

Once you complete your Initial Military Training you’ll begin your Initial Employment Training in Bandiana, VIC where you’ll learn the skills of an Administration Assistant. Then you’ll be posted to one of the many Army bases across Australia. You could be posted to any unit and you may be called upon to use your skills in barracks, on exercises or in support of domestic operation. While your surroundings may change, your job role remains consistent and is essential to the effective operation of the Army.

So, what happens next? After finishing your Gap Year program, you can choose to continue your career in the Army, or use the skills and experiences to gain an edge in future careers. There’s no obligation to serve beyond the one-year program period.

Life in the Army Gap Year Program:

Action, adventure, exciting career opportunities and amazing mateship – the Army Gap Year Program is a one-year commitment that takes you out of the office and into barracks, training exercises and the field itself.

There’s also the unique sense of accomplishment and pride that comes from serving your country and providing support to communities in need, both here and overseas. Whether you decide to extend into a longer-term role in the Army, or not, you’ll get the chance to see if it’s a good fit for you.

Along with the highly purposeful work, you’ll be working in a supportive environment alongside highly skilled professionals to help guide you throughout the whole program.
