Get a taste of life in the Australian Defence Force with a 12-month Gap Year experience. While on an Army Logistics Gap Year, you’ll gain skills for life in one of three rewarding roles: Driver, Warehouse Coordinator or Cargo Specialist.

The 12-month experience will arm you with the skills and knowledge to contribute to your career journey inside or outside of the Australian Defence Force. After completing the Gap Year program, you’ll have the opportunity to leave or continue your Army employment in a full-time or part-time capacity.

From the moment you start your Gap Year experience you’ll be supported throughout your training by professional and enthusiastic Army personnel, who will provide the guidance necessary for you to get the most out of your experience.

Once you’re finished your training, you’ll join a unit and provide vital support to Army teams to keep them operating at their peak while on exercise or in barracks.

This experience isn’t just for people that are straight out of school. It’s a unique opportunity where you’ll get the chance to try out a year in the Army, learning and operating in a logistics role unlike any other. You’ll get paid to travel and gain invaluable life and work experience, while making friendships that could last a lifetime.

One you complete your Initial Military Training, you’ll grow your skills and expertise in one of the following roles:

– Driver where you’ll get behind the wheels of an exciting variety of high performing military vehicles, from a Mercedes Benz G-Wagon to a 110-tonne heavy equipment transporter designed to carry cargo like tanks, or

Warehouse Coordinator where you’ll take on a critical warehouse management and logistics role, acquiring valuable supply chain skills and distribute state-of-the-art military equipment that most people don’t get to see, or

Cargo Specialist where you’ll ensure crucial cargo gets to its destination on time – by road, rail, sea or air. You’ll learn to operate heavy machinery from forklifts to cranes to small landing craft.

Life in the Army Gap Year Program:

Action, adventure, exciting career opportunities and amazing mateship – the Army Gap Year Program is a one-year commitment that takes you out of the office and into barracks, training exercises and the field itself.

There’s also the unique sense of accomplishment and pride that comes from serving your country and providing support to communities in need, both here and overseas. Whether you decide to extend into a longer-term role in the Army, or not, you’ll get the chance to see if it’s a good fit for you.

Along with the highly purposeful work, you’ll be working in a supportive environment alongside highly skilled professionals to help guide you throughout the whole program.

Salary:

During your 12-month role and on completion of training, you will receive a salary starting from $71,750 plus generous 16.4% superannuation.
