Introduction
To be successful in securing an internship in IBM Global Business Services, you will be highly motivated with a positive attitude and willingness to learn. Ideally, you also have a strong interest or experience with data analysis, in particular using Excel spreadsheets.

Your Role and Responsibilities
This is an opportunity for a creative student to join our team for a 12-month internship in Ballarat.

Our Designers are makers and storytellers that use design to bring ideas to life. They lead projects into uncharted creative territories. They’re design fundamentalists, but approach projects with rational and innovative mindsets. They extend visual language, always mindful of how it looks and how it works. This discipline is focused on creating branded trans media stories and content that people want to engage 365 days a year. The design discipline brings the art of succinctly telling a story to a customer within the IBM Design Thinking process, craft stories and build brands through campaign level thinking and execution. You will help build complex systems and experiences from dynamic interfaces to large systematic websites. You’ll collaborate with other disciplines to execute the visual portion of a project.

As a contributor to the team, you’ll share knowledge and collaborate with your team to address ambiguous, complex problems and projects. You’ll apply IBM Design Thinking and methods to uncover user and business requirements in the context of the technical landscape; while evaluating the effectiveness and adequacy of existing/proposed solutions. It is expected that you will work with senior team members to establish priority, fidelity and delivery of tasks.

Participates in discussions and presentations for both working and delivery purposes. Possesses the skills required to collect, reflect, and take action on feedback from stakeholder interactions, design validation sessions and playbacks. Able to support your design decisions with qualified rationale. You must be able to negotiate and evolve the design with more senior designers to explore possible solutions that will be upheld in the delivered product.

Environment: Absorbs design direction quickly to produce consistency as they apply design to products and hardware around the world. Learns new skills quickly to adapt to solve problems. Is empathetic and attune to users’ needs, motivations, and behaviours. Has hands-on skills in tools meant for rapid prototyping, system diagramming, visual design layout and presentation.

Communication/Negotiation: Negotiates within a highly collaborative environment in order to deliver user experiences. Understands the client’s brand, and can articulate the personality of an idea within the client’s brand. Seeks out interactions with development and business to collaborate in order to elevate the overall solution. Provides ideas and options to design team.

Problem Solving: Makes inquiries across functions to root out the nature of a problem and analyses the opportunities they present. Prepares and presents multiple options for solving the problems. Learns to recognise processes that contribute to cognitive load and cognitive barriers for the user, while making plans to resolve the complexity. Creates quick prototypes to test hypothesis and quickly iterates to develop the exploration of a concept.

To be eligible to apply:
Intern applicants must meet the following requirements:
• Have Australian citizenship or Australian Permanent Residency
• You will be enrolled in a tertiary degree at University in Australia – Throughout the internship program
• Have no more than 2 years relevant work experience
