The Queensland Department of Environment and Science (DESI) is seeking a dedicated Ranger for an Indigenous Identified role based in the tranquil surrounds of Lake Eacham. This unique position is integral to the protection and maintenance of our national parks, prioritising the operation of heavy plant machinery within the Northern Region. The ideal candidate will possess a HC licence and experience, positioning them to expertly navigate essential road construction and maintenance tasks.
Your role will merge hands-on fieldwork with the rich heritage of the land, involving the operation of heavy equipment critical for the upkeep and accessibility of our cherished parks. You’ll form part of a unit that prides itself on preserving Queensland’s natural beauty in alignment with traditional practices and knowledge. The role requires adaptability, with considerable travel and a rota that includes a 10/4 fieldwork roster and a 5/2 roster when at the Lake Eacham base.
As the guardian of these areas, you will receive unique opportunities to contribute significantly to conservation efforts while interfacing with local Indigenous communities. In this capacity, your work will not only impact the environment but also support the cultural connections and understanding that First Nations peoples share with these lands.
Embrace this chance to drive meaningful work in natural and cultural conservation with DESI. If you hold an HC licence, have experience in heavy plant operations, and wish to enhance Queensland’s natural legacy, apply to join us as a Ranger in Lake Eacham and leave a lasting imprint on the preservation and appreciation of our protected areas.
Applications to remain current for 12 months.
