Closing in 8 hoursRangers ensure that the Queensland’s national parks, state forests and reserves are protected, accessible and valued by all Queenslanders. Rangers work in partnership with local communities and other stakeholders to contribute to the land management, recreational and conservation outcomes across the protected areas which are managed by DESI under the Nature Conservation Act 1992, Recreation Areas Management Act 2006, Marine Parks Act 2004, Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Act 1975, Forestry Act 1959 and other relevant legislation. The important work of rangers at this location is to contribute to ongoing conservation of National Parks and State forests through implementing various work tasks and programs on key pest species such as feral pigs and invasive plants, whilst considering conservation and protection of threatened species. Another aspect that will be involved is Fire management which involves on the ground fire operations to implement conservation burns and containment of wildfires. There is also regular engagement with the public, neighbouring landholders and lease owners to gain feedback and collaboratively achieve environmental outcomes, while providing for recreation opportunities the position will assist with the maintenance of camping areas, picnic areas and walking tracks.
This position is based at Tregony located between Warwick and Aratula along the Cunningham Highway. At times long distance travel to other locations will be required to support regional operations. When travelling away from base overnight accommodation may vary from motels to park barracks, to bush camps in remote locations under a range of climatic conditions (refer to attached location guides). Due to the remoteness of some locations and difficult to access areas, it is advisable that the successful applicant has a degree of physical fitness that will enable them to hike long distances to conduct physical operational activities. This position works on a Monday to Friday roster (5/2), at times and especially on long weekends, work will be required to conduct compliance or respond to emergency situations such as wildfires.
