We are currently seeking a motivated Station Assistant to join our Travel and Tourism team based in Normanton. In this role you will work with an experienced small team of up to four people to perform routine duties associated with station operations to meet the demands of the service and the requirements of customers for the Gulflander.
The station attracts hundreds of customers between May to September each year and during the off-peak months the team have the opportunity to maintain machinery, equipment or the pristine gardens that they have become renowned for.
We are looking for an adaptable individual who enjoys and thrives in an environment where each day is different and who has outstanding communication skills. Your ability to work in a fast-paced environment whilst being able to provide an engaging and memorable experience for customers will be paramount to your success in this role.
Key responsibilities of a Station Assistant include:
• Ensure the smooth operation of station platform and facilities
• Assist with safe and on time arrival and departure of the Gulflander, including platform announcements and active platform management
• Providing quality customer services by interacting, assisting and directing customers.
• Operating station machinery and equipment
• Cleaning the station and the train as well as maintaining the gardens
• Report anything that may impact on staff or customer safety to the Officer in Charge
• Perform additional duties as requested by the Officer in Charge
We are looking for someone with proven outstanding face to face customer service skills. You will be self-motivated and can work within a team environment. In addition, you will need:
• Substantial customer service skills
• Sound interpersonal and communication skills
• Substantial ability to work in a team environment and autonomously
• Sound knowledge of Workplace Health and Safety requirements
• Ability to undertake a variety of manual handling tasks including cleaning and lifting of heavy luggage up to 20 kilograms
• Previous general commercial cleaning experience is desirable but not essential
• Previous admin experience around ticketing and booking travel is desirable but not essential
• National ‘C’ Class Drivers Licence – required
