Job Description

Indigenous Business Support Officer Trainee – Stonnington City Council – Inner East – FT

  • Fantastic opportunity for someone to start a career in local government with a supportive employer.
  • You will be working within the Human Resources Recruitment department learning all the tricks of the trade.
  • Opportunity to learn and gain a formal qualification in Certificate 3 Business over 12 months
  • Working hybrid of in the office (located at Malvern) and from home
  • Full time hours, with consideration for part time working 3 days a week or more
  • National Training Wage: $18.58 per hour
  • Starting beginning of May 2022

This role will be a central administrator for the Organisational Development, Business Partnering and Talent Acquisition Unit providing valuable support as the Advisors and Partners carry out their functions and getting to learn all about recruitment, training and development, organisational culture, diversity, access and inclusion.

Some of your regular duties will include:

  • Processing new starter / onboarding paperwork
  • Posting job advertisements
  • Organising pre-employment checks (psych test, police check, WWCC, pre-employment medical, VISA, etc)
  • Development and implementation of learning modules
  • Assisting staff with queries on how to add interview notes to the system or access online learning courses
  • Assisting with candidate queries on how to apply for a job, issues with logging in, etc
  • Developing Certificates of Service and Recognition Awards
  • Processing applications for Educational Assistance
  • Managing all invoices and purchase orders
  • Records management duties such as filing letters on employee files or gathering information from employee files for investigations
  • Management of inboxes and providing excellent customer service
  • Assisting with projects and programs for the whole unit and the Department if required

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Computer skills and experience in Microsoft Word and Excel, with a willingness and ability to learn new systems
  • Ability to provide customer service to various stakeholders.
  • Friendly and proactive attitude to positively contribute to the team culture
  • A commitment to and willingness to learn
  • Good level of written communication skills and attention to detail
  • Time management skills to organise workload and meet deadlines

Please note:
This traineeships is on offer as a part of the Stonnington Youth Traineeship Program aiming at assisting young people by offering an entry level role, for candidates with none or limited experience, but with the attitude to start a career, and want to work within an office environment.

  • This traineeships is for a person whom is an Aboriginal and / or Torres Strait Islander.
  • A police check will be completed with the successfull candidate
  • Candidates need to be willing to commit to the duration of 12 months traineeship
  • You must not have a previous Certificate III qualification (unless parts of VCAL) to meet the traineeship criteria
  • Candidate will be employed by BSL Given the Chance Social Enterprise Labour Hire and hosted into the worksite
  • To be eligible to apply for this position you must have an appropriate Australian or New Zealand work visa
  • Candidate will receive BSL workplace support to make this a successful opportunity for both candidate, employer and referring agency.
