Investing in yourself early on provides your future self with a competitive advantage in the job market.

Hi there, I’m Katherine and I’m a current associate consultant here at Capgemini.

So I’ve joined Capgemini’s graduate programme as an Associate Consultant specifically aligned to the healthcare and public sector industry.

Initially, I found out about Capgemini through a networking event held by Monash University, which I definitely recommend attending since you’re able to network with current consultants as well as recruiters.

So one of my favourite quotes is that you’re the sum of your five closest friends, and undoubtedly consulting attracts top talent across various industries in Australia.

One of my highlights has been knowledge sharing with fellow graduates across various capabilities within consulting.

Initially, I held the misconception that consultants only provided advice and then left. However, in reality, consultants often provide support during implementation, change management, and really focus on nurturing a long-term relationship with their clients.

One of the most common questions I get from aspiring consultants is what does a day in the life look like? And I believe this question stems from overall ambiguity about the roles and responsibilities within consulting.

One of my personal favourite analogies is to think of consultants as a doctor or GP for businesses. As in, consultants take a personalised, collaborative, and agile approach to client projects.

I hope that helps.

A piece of advice I provide to my younger self is to learn a high-value skill. So strategy, CX, marketing, sales, Gen AI, and e-commerce are all highly sought-after skills by employers and clients.

Hence, investing in yourself early on provides your future self with a competitive advantage in the job market.
