Deedee’s Dive Into the Defence Industry (and Why She’s Loving It)

Being able to start your career while you’re still at uni almost sounds too good to be true. However, that’s precisely what Deedee was able to do with the help and support of Rheinmetall Defence Australia (RDA)! That’s right, while smashing out a double degree in Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Design at Griffith Uni (hello, powerhouse!), Deedee landed an internship at Rheinmetall, and hasn’t looked back since!

Her role? A student engineer in the logistics team, juggling university and hands-on industry experience like a total professional. What started as a three-month internship turned into something much bigger; not only did she gain real-world skills, but she also got a glimpse into RDA’s epic two-year graduate program and how to become a fully-fledged engineer! No guesswork, just a clear path to a future-proof career.

Next stop for Deedee? Wrapping up her final semesters, graduating in November, and jumping into the 2026 grad program to keep building her future in engineering. Want to follow in her footsteps? All you need to do is tune into her interview and discover everything you need to know, including:

  • What it’s like balancing uni with an engineering internship.
  • How internships open doors to full-time grad programs.
  • How Rheinmetall help their interns become chartered engineers.
  • Why young voices and fresh ideas are exactly what RDA wants.
  • What the next-gen defence workforce really looks like.
