So, now that you have a deeper understanding of the logistics industry, its time for us to give you an insider’s view. We caught up with Kelly to learn more about here role with Nestlé, and here’s what she had to say:
“I joined Nestlé in 2022 as a NextGen Supply Chain Graduate, a two-year program with four six-month rotations within the Supply Chain. These rotations included Factory Logistics, Customer-Facing Supply Chain, Physical Logistics, and Procurement. On completion of the Graduate program I joined Nestlé full-time. Currently, I am a Procurement Specialist in the Confectionery Business Unit, where I procure raw ingredients and packaging materials for well-known brands such as KitKat and Allens. My responsibilities include analysing demand, negotiating contracts, and sourcing materials for new product development projects.”

What do you find to be the most interesting or challenging part of your work?
“One of the most interesting aspects of my time in the Nestlé NextGen Graduate Program was the opportunity to rotate through different teams within the department, allowing me to gain a comprehensive understanding of the end-to-end supply chain. My experience working in the KitKat factory as part of the graduate rotation was particularly eye-opening; it not only enabled me to relocate to Melbourne but also gave me insight into the production process of KitKats and even trained me to be a professional chocolate taster!”
“Additionally, as a part of a global company, I have the chance to collaborate with teams from other countries, such as Malaysia and Switzerland, which provided invaluable exposure to diverse business practices and cultural perspectives. Now in procurement full-time, I work closely with various internal departments—such as Research and Development (R&D), Quality, and Logistics—as well as with suppliers worldwide. I enjoy the balance of learning about our operations while also gaining insights into other companies and their practices.”
How did you get started in this field? Did your experiences and studies in university assist you in your career development?
“I began my career in this industry because I wanted to leverage both my Bachelor of Commerce (Finance) and Bachelor of Food Science degrees. Nestlé, as a global FMCG (Fast-Moving Consumer Goods) company, allows me to combine my analytical thinking and problem-solving skills with my knowledge of food science in my day-to-day work. The unique blend of these disciplines has been instrumental in my career development and transition from university.”
Do you have any advice for someone interested in applying for your company?
“For those interested in applying to Nestlé, I recommend being genuine and demonstrating your passion for the food and beverage industry.
