Early Careers Programme

Babcock’s Early Careers Programme has a range of pathways to help you launch your career, gain first-hand experience, and develop the knowledge and skills to open up a world of opportunities.

Whether you join us as a graduate, apprentice, trainee, intern or on work experience, you’ll gain a range of experiences and build skills that support your studies and help you succeed in your chosen profession.

Early Careers participants can access additional perks, including:

  • Paid leave to attend exams and participate in further studies.
  • Reimbursements for course materials, external studies and membership fees for relevant professional bodies.

Participants also get a role-specific toolkit and the opportunity to represent Babcock as a STEM Ambassador.

 

Graduate Programme 

Completing a degree takes determination to ‘own & deliver’, and Babcock provides a comprehensive programme for graduates looking to put their studies to work.

Our Graduate programme is full-time for 24 months, drawing on a range of development activities that will see you grow and strengthen your technical and soft skills, setting you up for a successful career.

You will expand your network by rotating across multiple disciplines, partnering with other graduates and business leaders and discover the best fit for you.

As a Graduate, you will:

  • Be in your final year of study for a University Degree; OR
  • Completed your Degree or Masters within the last 24 months
  • Be an Australian Citizen (for Australian-based placements) or have appropriate work rights (for New Zealand-based placements).
  • Have exceptional communication skills
  • Have the ability to use initiative and prioritise workload
  • Be proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Be able to commence our program in February each year

Internship Programme

We know that many students are keen to get a foot into their chosen field before they even graduate – and we’re just as keen to help make that happen.

This pathway is for students who haven’t completed their studies but are looking to gain real-life experience prior to their final year. Internships are a paid 12-week opportunity to align with the academic calendar and qualification requirements.

From here, there is the possibility for part-time work in their final year, with support on their studies and projects.

As a Babcock intern, you’ll have access to 12 weeks of development with our team to experience what a role in our business could look like for you. This may also open opportunities for you to join our graduate programme the following year.

What’s Included in our Internship programme?

  • Our paid 12-week programme provides you with valuable industry experience aligned with your area of study.
  • Career guidance and mentoring, graduate program leadership, and networking with other students and key stakeholders giving you exposure to our diverse business operations.
  • A performance and development evaluation where you can provide feedback on your learnings, aspirations for the future and ideas for continual improvement.
  • The ability to be first in line for consideration into our Graduate Programme.

As an Intern, you will: 

  • Be in your penultimate year of study for a university degree.
  • Be an Australian Citizen (for Australian-based placements) or have appropriate work rights (for New Zealand-based placements).

Apprentices & Trainees

Developing skills through hands-on experience combined with external training is a great way to ‘think: outcomes’ and Babcock can guide apprentices and trainees on their journey.

This pathway is for people who want to achieve professional qualifications in technical and business fields through academic and work-based learning.

Aligned with industry standards, apprentices and trainees at Babcock will learn throughout their programme, with potential to work on new and emerging technologies.

Engineered to Grow

Our approach is focused on creating more opportunities for our people through Babcock’s global reach of diverse and innovative programs.

Our engineers have the opportunity to work across a diverse range of programs and projects, which can include:

  • Design, modify and maintain naval ships;
  • Design, build and maintain ship and submarine systems;
  • Develop advanced communication and surveillance systems;
  • Modify and maintain aircraft; and
  • Develop and maintain systems for future soldiers.
