Pathology Collector
Pathology Collectors play such an important role in a patient’s health journey. You are the friendly face when a customer comes into a clinic to get their blood tests and the caring assurance to let our customers know that they are in good hands.
You could be working in a clinic, on the road doing home visits, or could be in a hospital, and are responsible for carrying out the collection of samples.
As well as the technical aspect of collecting blood, a huge part of being a Pathology Collector involves providing positive customer experiences and having a caring approach.
A day in the life of a Pathology Collector would look something like this:
- Collecting samples (blood and non-blood) with care and attention
- Keeping meticulous records for every patient and sample
- Delivering documentation within strict turnaround times
- Preparing and packaging specimens for transport and testing
- Liaising with a range of different people including customers, clinic staff and couriers
We offer a range of different roles to work around you – full time, part time and casual, available across our local clinics, meaning a short commute to work and more time spent with the people you love and doing what you love outside of work.
If you like the idea of being able to help people in your community and making a difference to people’s health, then being a Pathology Collector could be a role to explore!
Training
Wondering how to kick start a career in Pathology Collection?
Multiple Registered Training Organisations (RTOs), colleges and TAFE provide the Certificate III course, which is a mix of theory and practical, and usually takes around 12 months to complete.
From here, Healius provides paid-for training which means you are set up for success as you will be able to have in-clinic experience with a buddy. Once you are ready to start in your role, you will be assigned a coach who will help you every step of the way!
You will have a team of Pathology Collectors and will report to your Collector Lead, who will support you and provide the right resources to thrive in your job.
Career growth
There are many different career avenues to explore as a Pathology Collector at Healius, and promoting from within is something that we encourage! Whether you want to manage teams as a Collector Lead, Area Manager and beyond, or move into the commercial area of the business, we have clear career progression paths that include advancement to business managerial roles across broader areas, and ongoing education and support to attain this.
Hiring Process
The hiring process is dependent on the role you are applying for, but it is usually a 2 interview stage process – a screening call with someone in our Talent Acquisition Team, followed by a face to face interview with the hiring manager.
We want to hear what motivates, inspires and drives you. We do want to know how you can make an impact and add value in the role you’re interviewing for, but most of all we want you to be yourself.
