Great teams takeoff together

You may know us for famously low fares, but did you know that we’ve flown more than 400 million passengers since we launched in Australia in 2004? We take around 3,000 flights to the sky each week – and we’re not just an Australian airline. The Jetstar Group includes Jetstar Asia and Jetstar Japan, making us one of the largest low-cost airlines in the region. Our fleet of more than 115 aircraft, includes the Airbus A320 family and Boeing 787-8s.

Impressive numbers? What’s even more impressive is the team of extraordinary people taking off together day in day out, flight after flight.

Our people are the real jet stars.

Where we touch down

When we’re not flying, you’ll find us in airports and in offices around Australia, New Zealand and Asia.  Our busiest location is home to sport, interesting weather, and of course: our Collingwood Head office and Melbourne Engineering Precinct.

Meet one of our Graduates

Meet Elysia a Customer Business Analyst, who originally joined the Jetstar Graduate Program in 2023.

Tell us about your graduate rotations in a nutshell.

I began my Jetstar career journey with a rotation in the Ancillary Revenue Team, taking a deep-dive into the world of product management and marketing. This rotation was unique as it allowed me to contribute to the development of many different products, including baggage, media, partnerships, Club Jetstar, sustainability, in-flight retail, in-flight entertainment and more. The large scope of this rotation resulted in highly varied work, an ocean of learning experiences, as well as opportunities to take ownership over meaningful business projects spanning each product.

My next rotation in Operational Delivery was a leap out of my comfort zone. It was outside the customer and commercial division which I had become accustomed to. With no background in aviation prior to joining the Jetstar Graduate Program, I was exposed to a whole new world: gaining incredible insights into what it takes for an airline to run on a daily basis.

A world of opportunity awaits our grads. Any key highlights?

To start with, I’ve been part of baggage handling and engineering hangar tours, as well as volunteered alongside our airport customer service agents; these hands-on experiences have opened my perspective on what it takes to work on the frontline of an airline.

Another incredible opportunity is visiting Singapore and Japan to collaborate on social media ideation workshops with our teams in both countries. It was highly insightful to learn about different working cultures, and to take this account when developing social media ideas and briefs.

Meet one of our Apprentices

Meet Yana, a Jetstar mechanical apprentice.

What are your highlights of the Program?

The highlight was working within the base maintenance hangar. It was the best two years of my apprenticeship – learning new things every day and improving my hand skills. I’ve learned a lot from the hangar, including how aircraft systems work and removing and installing different types of components. The best part was doing high-power engine runs in which we test and power up the engine like it was going to take off. Such a fun and exciting job to do!

How has your development been supported on the Program?

The support I received as an apprentice was overwhelming. As a female in a male-dominated industry, I felt intimidated at first – but that feeling was quickly replaced by determination to learn and excel because of the amazing support I received. I didn’t feel any pressure because of my gender, but rather, I felt empowered by the opportunity to showcase my abilities and contribute to a field where diversity is celebrated and vales. This diversity made for a strong workplace culture. I was working with highly skilled AME’s and LAME’s who provided great support and guidance. From every small detail of the job, they never hesitate to help and pass on knowledge.

Meet one of our Academy Pilots

Meet Thomas Fanshawe, a First Officer for QantasLink, who first started in the Qantas Group Pilot Academy.

How would you describe your experience at the academy?

I look back on my time at the academy with fond memories and lifelong friendships. The academy has provided us with an excellent stat to our career, laying the foundations for a career in aviation. The academy has excellent resources and passionate instructors and staff who helped guide us through our relevant theoretical examinations and build strong fundamental flying skills and techniques.

What advice would you give to someone aspiring to be a pilot?

Take a trial introduction flight. This gives you an opportunity to try flying before investing heavily in a future in aviation.

Anything else you’d like to share about your experience as a pilot or at the academy?

Upon completing my training at the Qantas Group Pilot Academy I began the rigorous training to obtain an instructor rating. From here I was fortunate to obtain a role as a flight instructor at the academy. This was a real highlight of my career, helping further develop my skills, and my passion for teaching, while allowing me the opportunity to help the future pilots of today. It makes me proud and has been extremely rewarding seeing so many past students develop into the aviation professionals they are today and watch as they progress within the industry with their first flying roles.

We seek apprentices across various trades – whatever your strengths, there’s a path for you to soar at Jetstar.
