They know everything about what’s going on in every team”
W.i.S.E. – Women in System Engineering
If REA was a house, System Engineering would be the electrical wiring and plumbing. Our system engineers provide the framework needed for our developers to build apps and website for our customers and consumers. It’s a crucial technical function, but one missing adequate representation from half the population. Currently, only 13% of system engineers are women, industry-wide. We’re looking to give women a taste of the exciting world of system engineering and illuminate a career pathway open to them after graduation.
Our new internship program will launch in November 2023, open to women in their penultimate year of study. This is a twelve week paid program that will see participants immersed in all that system engineering and tech infrastructure at REA has to offer. They’ll spend the first three weeks completing an onboarding project while rotating through different system engineering squads. The next 8 weeks will be on-the-job learning embedded in a squad and supported by a dedicated People Leader and Tech Mentor. In the final week, participants will present their learnings to our tech leaders and celebrate completion of their program alongside our graduating cohort of Tech Grads.
Springboard to Tech
Women belong in tech careers, however are underrepresented throughout the tech industry. As a successful tech business, we recognise our opportunity and responsibility to reduce barriers for women to transition to tech.
Our Springboard to Tech Program offers women and gender-diverse folks a personalised program that helps them transition into (or back into) a technical career. It’s a 12-month paid program offering on the job, formal training, mentoring and coaching opportunities. At the end of the program, participants are offered ongoing full-time roles within the REA business.
We offer two program streams for Springboarders:
Women and gender-diverse people who are completely new to tech, and will be supported to undertake a nine month course in software engineering at Holberton School before commencing the program
Those who have already invested in tech learning and are ready for on-the-job learning as an Associate Developer
If you are curious, love to learn and are ready to challenge yourself, REA is the place for you. REA is a dynamic environment where you will never stop learning and we’ll back you all the way.
The program is completely personalised to the individual as we recognise everyone comes from different backgrounds and has different skill sets. The year is all about learning and being immersed in the world of tech. You’ll work with the best and brightest in each field and be surrounded by down-to-earth people who want to see you grow and succeed.
Sustainability
We believe that everyone deserves a safe, secure and affordable place to sleep every night.
At REA Group our purpose is to change the way the world experiences property, and this includes members of the community who are at risk of or currently experiencing homelessness. This is why our multiyear charity partnerships in Australia are with organisations working towards ending homelessness, and supporting disadvantaged members of our community who are at risk of or experiencing homelessness, such as those experiencing domestic violence.
Our charity partners include Launch Housing, Orange Sky Australia, andThe Big Issue.
Because We Care
Our people are passionate about their communities and like to give back to causes close to their hearts. REA’s Because We Care program enables our people to support causes they are passionate about through volunteering, matched payroll giving, employee community grants and fundraising.
Matched Payroll Giving – Our people can donate to the charities that matter most to them out of their pre- tax salary. And we match their donations, dollar for dollar, up to $500 a year.

Environment
REA Group’s Climate Change policy was first published in October 2020, with a focus on accounting for climate change in our own operations, as well as how we can play a role in addressing global greenhouse gas emissions in the broader property sector.
REA Group has committed to reducing and offsetting our emissions each year and have been certified carbon neutral by the Australian Government’s Climate Active program since FY20.
To ensure REA Group does its fair share of tackling climate change, we have developed science-based emissions reduction targets (SBTs) in line with approved methodologies. REA Group commits to reducing our absolute scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions by 42% and scope 3 emissions by 25% by 2030 from an FY20 base year.

We Celebrate Diversity
At REA your lived experience is your superpower.
The diverse and unique perspectives of our people are what help us change the way the world experiences property.
At REA we encourage diversity of thought and celebrate people for who they are and what they contribute to our communities.
REA Group is a place where all people belong.
Our inclusive hiring process
Candidates are empowered to design an interview process that will give them the best chance to succeed. This includes flexibility around how and when you interview, and how you complete tasks (where relevant). If you’re offered a role at REA you’re supported encouraged to share the accessibility requirements and accommodations that will help you do your best work.
When you join REA you’re encouraged to get involved in as much activity as you want, and if you’re passionate about Diversity & Inclusion then our D&I Guild might be right for you.
This group gets together to plan content and celebrate key diversity dates on the calendar each month of the year.
From IDAHOBIT Day to Ramadan, and Chinese New Year to Holi, there’s always something to learn about and celebrate at REA.
Our Reconciliation Action Plan
In the 2022-2023 Financial Year, we started work on our very first Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan. This saw us bring together people from all around the business along with a First Nations RAP Advisor to make plans for what we wanted to achieve as a business.
In the 2023-2024 Financial Year, our Reconciliation work will include:
Cultural awareness and capability training
Building relationships with local First Nations communities
Scoping our employment opportunities for First Nations peoples within REA
Looking at our suppliers and how we can engage more First Nations businesses
We’ve also connected with Ingeous Studios, a 100% Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander owned and operated business to work on artwork for our Reconciliation Action Plan, which is going to be deadly!
Neurodiversity & Disability
Our people bring incredible talent to REA, and to ensure they can do their best work, a few adjustments or accommodations might come in handy.
This is why we’ve partnered with two exciting organisations – The Field and Amaze – to help us understand how we can be a disability and Autism inclusive employer.
The Field
The Field was founded by Dylan Alcott OAM during his time as Australian of the Year, and is a job platform to connect people with disability to jobs from inclusive employers, like REA Group.
Our partnership with The Field was led by CEO Financial Services, Anthony Waldron who is so passionate about this space, he attended Parliament House alongside Australia’s Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, in Canberra to celebrate the launch of the ground-breaking new job site and show our support!
Through The Field we have access to all kinds of inclusive features like job ads in different formats (PDF, audio, video), and the ability to share an office tour video so job seekers can see whether REA offices are right for them.
Amaze
Amaze is a leading autism advocacy and support organisation that we’re working with on the delivery of their brand new A Plus Employment program. This program aims to make it easier for Autistic and neurodivergent people to feel included and do their best work at REA.
Across the business, teams will attend workshops to learn about neurodivergence, and we will make positive and inclusive changes in hiring, onboarding and the performance cycle. We’ll also make it easier for people to access modifications and adjustments that will help them manage their work days. This includes things like the hours you work, flexibility around when you can work from home, how and when team meetings are run, and more.
How we support women and other genders
We’re proud to be within 1% of a 50/50 gender split at REA, as well as having strong female representation in our Executive Leadership Team.
This has been achieved by focusing on supporting women into our Tech community and nurturing the careers of females and female leaders at REA.
We’re proud to offer generous, gender agnostic parental leave offerings for people who are bringing kids into their care in lots of different ways – adoption, surrogacy, birth, etc, and when our people become parents or caregivers, we support them and their people leaders through our partnership with Circle In, to give them the tools and resources to tackle this transition head on.
We also offer flexible return-to-work options like flexible working arrangements.
While much of our work in this space has been around attracting female identifying people to our business, we believe that gender isn’t binary and support our people to share their preferred pronouns and be their authentic selves when they’re at work.
Endless research points to the power of diverse teams in creativity, decision making and team performance. We need to increase the number of women entering technical careers to help us make the best products we possibly can and continue to be a great place for all people to work. We’re also committed to developing the amazing women already working at REA, by giving them the opportunities to upskill, support and coach each other, and take their careers to the next level.
Our Women in Tech (WiT) initiatives include:
Springboard to Tech – a 12 month program to support women and gender-diverse people transition to a techcareer

We coach our leaders on the importance of trust and psychological safety in teams so all people can feel safe to share what’s happening in their lives with their people leader, and to feel safe being themselves and asking for what they need.
