My name is Erin Murphy and I am a baker for Coles. I started with Coles at the Singleton store just over 2 years ago and when the opportunity came up for anyone in the store to go to do the Coles Skilled Baker Course I put my hand up for that because it sounded perfect – right up my alley. It’s flour it’s water it’s salt, it’s a bit of yeast: anyone can be a baker. But if you do the Skilled Baker Course and if you do the Bakery Apprenticeship Program and you get that passion and that drive for it, that’s when you start making the most incredible products. And the more incredible products you make, the more drive you get.
Coles provide everything, and they give you all the training that you need to become successful in your role. A definite highlight for me in my career as a baker at Coles would be completing the Baker Apprenticeship Program. I had so many opportunities and now I can make Danishes and pastries and croissants and sourdough and rye and whole grain and all of these things that I would never have had the opportunity to learn had I not done the apprenticeship through Coles.
It’s been the best possible thing that I could have done for myself within this company.
