No Interview Experience? No Problem! Here’s What to Expect:

Despite recruitment teams embracing the growth of technology recently (hello Zoom interviews!), the general structure of job interviews hasn’t really changed over the last 20 years.

However, employer one-way-video technology has resulted in a new form of interviewing emerging across global recruitment. If you meet the initial job criteria your application progresses to provide your answers captured via video recording, enabling you to demonstrate specific experience, skills and nursing know-how.

That being said, it’s pretty safe to assume that any interview format will look a little like this:

  • Welcome and introduction.
  • Candidate is asked about their motivations, values, skills and experience.
  • Questions that probe into key areas e.g. can you tell us a time when you …
  • Hiring leader shares more about the role, the team, the company & role expectations.
  • Question time for the candidate and a general discussion on process steps.
  • Closing, next steps and the interview is closed.

Top Tips for Nailing Your Next Interview

Here’s what you’ve all been waiting for: Infinite Aged Care promised you their top interview tips, and they’ve delivered!

1. Be Early
  • Pick a time that you can get to the location 25 mins before the interview begins. This gives you plenty of time to commute, do a RAT test, and get in the zone.
  • For online interviews, find a quiet place where you won’t be interrupted.
2. Dress Smart Corporate
  • First impressions DO count!
3. Do Your Research
  • Research the company you are interviewing with and plan your desired shift work/options. Remember most employers have a 6 month probation so don’t be afraid to outline what works for you to be a stable employee.
4. Be Prepared:
  • Think up some real-world examples for any open-ended questions that address the skills and experience in the position description.
  • g. “Can you tell me about a time when you used this xx equipment with a resident”
5. Have Some Questions At The Ready
  • Asking questions will show the hiring leader your enthusiasm and leadership potential: it proves you want to learn how to be successful in the role.
6. End With A Thank you
  • Remember, leaving a good impression is just as important as giving one at the start of the interview!
7. Check In With Yourself
  • Debrief by reflecting on your emotions throughout the interview (e.g. did I feel relaxed and confident or did I feel under prepared?)

Whether you’re a seasoned nurse, someone whose re-entering the workforce or you’re taking your first steps towards an exciting career, find your next opportunity at Infinite Aged Care’s employer profile.
