It’s Never Too Late For a Career Change with Master Builders Australia!

Despite always having an interest in and passion for carpentry and architecture, Jenneke Kijlstra-Shone never thought it was a career path she could pursue – she just never saw that many women in the industry.

It wasn’t until later in life, after completing a TAFE course, Jenneke realised where she wanted to be and secured an apprenticeship with her employer at the age of forty!

Jenneke joins us in our latest employee interview to share:

  • How she came to her career later in life after having time to dedicate to her passion.
  • What makes carpentry a fantastic career path for her and her favourite parts of her role.
  • What it means to her to be nominated for – and win! – the 2022 apprentice of the year.
  • Some of the misconceptions about women in the industry and how they’re totally inaccurate – there’s never been a better time to get involved with the trades!
  • Jenneke’s best advice for anyone interested in getting started in the sector.

Jenneke’s commitment and motivation to change careers and give it everything she has is truly inspiring – and paying off with her apprentice of the year award win!
