Pride in the Workplace? It’s SO Much More Than Rainbows!

Each year in June, the world recognises and embraces Pride Month, a celebration of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex and asexual communities.

During the month, many organisations show their support in various ways.

From adding a colourful rainbow to their company logo, holding morning teas and bake-offs, as well as workshops, seminars and talks to help educate and show support for the LGBTIQA+ community.

But rainbow flags and cupcakes are just a small part of it.

Compass Group knows to be a real ally for the LGBTIQA+ community within their workplaces, acknowledging and supporting Pride has to happen all year round.

Embracing Pride at Compass Group

Compass Group Australia is committed to ensuring all employees can bring themselves to work and feel safe and supported. As they continue to develop a dynamic and diverse workforce reflective of the communities they serve, Compass Group want to ensure everyone feels able to be who they are – not just during Pride Month, but each and every day.

“At Compass Group, we celebrate our people, no matter your sexual orientation or gender identity,” advises Jo Taylor, Managing Director at Compass Group.

“We champion each and every one of our 13,000 team members across the country to bring their authentic selves to work. We look to drive positive change and create a safe and inclusive environment free from harassment, intimidation, bullying and discrimination.”

How Compass Embraces Pride All Year

While proudly waving the rainbow flag, Compass Group aims to further support their LGBTIQA+ colleagues in and outside work.

This means taking action and providing space within the organisation to learn from each other, share their stories and raise concerns when needed.

Here are three ways they’re achieving this:

  1. The Compass Group Pride Toolkit: To support their wide-spread, diverse teams, Compass Group have developed a Pride Toolkit to help everyone embrace Pride Month and ensure that the LGBTIQA+ community feels supported, valued, and safe in their workplaces.
  2. Pride Ambassadors: With a strong team of Pride Ambassadors spread throughout the business, everyone has a spokesperson they can reach out to, gain support, and talk through concerns. The ambassadors are a diverse, inclusive group of individuals chosen for their dedication to ensuring that the diversity and inclusion values of Compass Group are always held high.
  3. Supporting LGBTIQA+ Organisations: As well as championing the LGBTIQA+ community in the workplace, Compass Group are also supporting two key organisations outside the business. These are Joy Media – a not-for-profit LGBTIQA+ media organisation, the only of its kind in Australia – and Minus18 – a youth LGBTIQA+ mental health organisation.
