Unlock your future: The power of inclusive recruitment

Hi, I’m Anita and I’m an Inclusive Recruitment Specialist working with the Coles Group Talent Acquisition Team.

At Coles Group, we’re all about creating a workplace that reflects the awesome diversity in our communities. No matter who you are, we want our team members to feel safe and valued. As you start looking for your first job, you might hear the term ‘inclusive recruitment’. But what does it really mean, and why is it important for you?

What is inclusive recruitment?

It’s a way of hiring that ensures everyone has a fair chance to get a job.

This means companies make extra efforts to include people from all backgrounds, regardless of culture, age, disability, race, gender identity, sexual orientation, or religion.

It’s about celebrating all the cool differences everyone brings and ensuring diverse talent is recognised and supported.

How to identify an inclusive employer?

Check the language in job advertisements and career websites. Inclusive employers use language that’s welcoming and avoids unnecessary requirements that might exclude some candidates.

Make sure the application process is accessible and inclusive.  Is the careers website and application form easy to use for people with disability?  Does the employer allow you to use your preferred name and pronouns?

Look for employers who are willing to provide adjustments to the recruitment process, like Auslan sign language interpreters, offering an alternate interview format or welcoming a support worker to attend interview.

What does the recruitment process look like at Coles Group?

Our recruitment process is accessible and inclusive, and we actively encourage applications from all job seekers, including those from the LGBTQI+ community and individuals with disabilities.

We recognise the importance of having a key contact within the company who can answer questions, provide support and adjustments, every step of the way.
