Early Career Pathways at the ABS

There are two great pathways available depending on the academic route you want to take:

  1. HR School Leavers Program
  2. ABS Graduate Program
HR School Leavers Program

The Australian Government HR School Leaver Program is a 12-month career development program. It’s a full-time job with a competitive salary, paid holidays and superannuation.

You’ll gain structured on-the-job and corporate training while undertaking a Certificate IV in Human Resource Management.

And if you find you love the meaningful work, you can stay on and continue your career in the Australian Public Service (APS).

ABS Graduate Development Program

The ABS Graduate Development Program is an opportunity to kick-start your career and build the foundations for the future.

The ABS is the perfect place to launch your graduate career. They offer a supportive environment where we focus on training and development to help graduates develop their skills and find their feet.

Recent or upcoming graduates can apply to join the 2025 Graduate Development Program in the following streams:

  • Accounting and Financial Management
  • Data
  • Human Resources
  • Legal
  • Indigenous Graduate Pathway

Are you ready to kick-start a thriving career in data? 

The ABS is seeking recent university graduates interested in pursuing a career in data and contributing to Australian society.
