At Simplot, We Contribute to Feeding Our World!

The J.R. Simplot Company’s purpose to Contribute to Feeding Our World drives our commitment to global food and agriculture. Our diverse portfolio spans from the soil and the sea to dinner tables around the world, and the agriculture-related interests in between. We pioneer innovations in plant nutrition and food processing, research new ways to feed animals and sustain ecosystems and strive to feed a growing global population. Our diverse portfolio across global agriculture and food gives us a broader view of the entire food system unique to any other company.

We’re proud to work with over 300 growers across Australia, some of whose families have been growing potatoes and vegetables for generations.

We believe that sourcing Australian grown produce and innovating with Australian growers is a key differentiator and will not only ensure the viability of our farming communities; it is the key to a sustainable future for all Australians.

We also support the broader Australian manufacturing and agricultural industry by working closely with transportation and distribution, cold store providers, ingredient and packaging suppliers.

Today, Simplot employs over 15,000 people and has major operations in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Argentina, Australia, China and India, with products and services available to customers worldwide.

Purpose and Mission

At Simplot we’re in the business of Bringing Earth’s Resources to Life, enabling us to deliver on the J.R. Simplot Company Purpose of Contributing to Feeding Our World.

Our founder, J.R. Simplot and the core values he instilled in our business – Spirit of Innovation, Respect for Resources and Passion for People – have underpinned the way we have operated for generations. Driven by our purpose and guided by these three core values, we will continue to make a difference and build on a legacy that will benefit our communities for years to come.

Purpose

Our Purpose is the reason we exist and the foundation that anchors our business strategy and goals. It’s also key to guiding our One Simplot mindset. It takes all of us to achieve Simplot’s Purpose and every employee has a role to play.

Mission

Our Mission helps bring together our diverse portfolio that spans from soil to dinner table and the agriculture-related interests in between. From our careful use of phosphates to finished food products on dinner tables, much of what we do depends on earth’s natural resources to help feed a growing world population.

Simplot’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Framework

We are better together.

The J.R. Simplot Company emphasises its passion for people by building an inclusive culture that encourages, supports, and celebrates the diverse voices of our people.

We know through experience that different ideas, perspectives, and backgrounds create a stronger and more creative work environment that delivers better results.

Simplot’s commitment to DEI strengthens our company and its business. We will continue to move forward on this journey in a meaningful, thoughtful way.

Our cultural diversity is a core strength that drives creativity and innovation across our organisation. The voices, ideas and contributions of our entire workforce, and in the communities where we operate worldwide, are crucial aspects of our commitment to contribute to feeding a growing global population.

Our Journey

One of the J.R. Simplot Company’s Core Values is a Passion for People. Our passion starts with our unwavering commitment to ensuring the health, safety and security of our employees, partners, and the communities where we operate. We believe in creating a safe, diverse, equitable and inclusive workplace that supports a healthy work-life balance and provides personal and career development opportunities. Because of this, our business continues to foster a ‘grow with us’ mindset and an impressive community of talent.

One important way the company demonstrates that is through our activities in support of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI). We are dedicated to ensuring our employees enjoy equal opportunities and are treated with fairness, respect and dignity. We strive to make sure they feel a sense of belonging and safe to bring their whole selves to work.

This journey is a purposeful one that started many years ago and is foundational to who we are as a company and our Simplot Mission and Purpose. In the last year, we have formalised our processes and goals around DEI. These include (but are not limited to) launching a Global DEI Steering Committee and local DEI Councils, supporting employee resource groups, launching unconscious bias training, and determining three DEI global focus areas:

  • DEI training, awareness, education
  • Expanded diversity focus in all talent decisions
  • Localised action

Our Sustainability Priorities

Preserving and Protecting the Planet we Rely on

Our connection to the Earth is paramount to everything we do. We are committed to being good stewards of the land, protecting our natural resources, and cultivating innovations that help us do more with less. We support sustainable agriculture, fishing, mining and manufacturing to safeguard resources for future generations. We continue to look for new ways to improve products, packaging and manufacturing to reduce our environmental impact, setting goals to reduce energy, carbon, water consumption and waste across our operations.

4Sight 2030 Goals

At Simplot, we are true stewards of the land, air and sea, driven to provide more plentiful, healthier food using fewer resources. Since we have all components of the agricultural value chain, we can tackle agricultural sustainability issues like nobody else, and that’s the approach we’re taking with our new sustainability goals.

Energy

Our goal: We reduced energy use over 20% per ton of product during the past 10 years, and we intend to reduce energy use an additional 15% per ton of product by 2030.

Water

Our goal: Reduce freshwater intake 15% per ton of product, reclaim and recycle water for a 50% conservation rate.

Carbon

Our goal: Reduce carbon emissions by 20% per ton of product by lowering emissions from our production facilities.

Approach to Environmental Sustainability

“At Simplot, we believe that change comes from the bottom, up: from the soil beneath our feet. Our environmental program is focused on working with our farmers, our suppliers and our customers to find practical solutions to climate and resilience, to assure water supply and quality, and to build healthy soils. We’re committed to meeting people where they are and helping them. Our ambition is to partner with trusted food brands to meet their sustainability goals, while at the same time walking with our producers – hand-in-hand – to take steps forward. It’s about putting those partnerships and relationships first, so we can make progress for the Earth, together.”

– Brandy Wilson, Simplot Global Sustainability Director
