How We’re Supporting Gender Diversity

Our leadership and talent development programs are designed to strengthen the talent pipeline, engage and retain our people, and support great careers at Metcash for all genders.

Our programs to support gender diversity and enhance inclusion in our workplace include:

  • Achieving a gender pay gap of ~1%.
  • Progressing towards our gender diversity target of 40/40/20 by 2025 (current female representation 46% at Board/Group Leadership Team level).
  • Establishing an active Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Council which champions gender equality across the business.
  • Tailoring parental leave policies for all genders to support births, stillbirths, surrogacy, miscarriages, and adoption.
  • Advertising to attract females into traditionally male-dominated roles.
  • Developing an Inclusive Leadership Program, which builds on our understanding of unconscious bias, to shift behaviours and habits to inclusive leadership across all levels of Metcash.
  • Continuing to promote flexible working – being awarded FlexReady certification by FlexCareers.
  • Maintaining a Women in Leadership Program, a key initiative to grow our female talent and accelerate their leadership and careers.
  • Supporting our gender balance strategy by enhancing our recruitment practices, overlaying a gender decoder across all our job advertisements to minimise gendered language and attract more diverse candidates to roles.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion are integral to achieving our purpose of championing successful independents, to giving back to the communities where we live and work, and to being a favourite place to work.

LGBTIQA+

At Metcash, we recognise that our people are the most essential element of our organisation, with safety, belonging, engagement, and inclusion fundamental to our culture and core values.

This recognition underpins our purpose of Championing Successful Independents and our focus on being ‘A Favourite Place to Work’.

Met-Pride

Our MetPride Committee and Allies are an inspiring group of team members across Metcash who support our DEI strategy and take action year-round to support our LGBTQ+ community.

The MetPride Committee is all about creating a network that builds and supports a diverse and inclusive culture to better serve our communities and customers.

The committee exists to promote an environment where our people feel safe, recognised, valued, and have a sense of belonging. We celebrate our LGBTQI+ community & allies.

Here’s a look at how we’re taking action for diversity, equity, and inclusion:

  • An active DEI Council that champions and supports inclusion strategies across all our Pillars and Functions.
  • Our MetPride Committee meets regularly to build initiatives and host events that foster a diverse and inclusive culture.
  • Develop and publish, organisation-wide, our edu-series “Shopping Bag”, organisation-wide, which focuses on educating our community on LGBTQ+ matters.
  • We celebrate Wear it Purple Day, Pride Month, and Mardi Gras to raise awareness, educate, and fundraise.
  • Our Employee Assistance Program is free for all employees to support them with their well-being with specialist advice available for LGBTQ+ related issues.
  • We offer 20 days of paid gender affirmation leave under our Gender Affirmation Policy for any of our team members transitioning or wishing to affirm their gender.

In 2023, we are proud to be raising money to support Minus18, an Australian charity improving the lives of LGBTQ+ youth.
