Spectrum – Telstra’s LGBTQ+ Employee Representative Group
We’re incredibly proud of Spectrum, our LGBTQ+ employees and allies’ network, which has over 1,500 members and celebrated its 10th birthday in 2018. It’s a place where our people come together to raise awareness, build relationships, and support one another.
Spectrum is led by a global group of representatives (who make up the Spectrum Council) and supported by Executive Sponsors.
Spectrum is open to all LGBTQ+ employees and allies.
Pride in Diversity
We’re a foundation member of Pride in Diversity, the national not-for-profit group advancing LGBTQ+ workplace inclusion and the publisher of the Australian Workplace Equality Index (AWEI). We were awarded Silver in the AWEI Awards in 2019.

Inclusive Policies & Programs
All our staff benefits policies are fully inclusive and accessible to all employees, including LGBTQ+ employees and their families.
ATSI Support at Telstra
As we transform Telstra, we’re taking a holistic view of diversity, beyond measuring demographics like gender, age and ethnicity, while continuing to prioritise fairness and opportunity for under-represented employees.
Career Trackers
We’ve partnered with CareerTrackers, a national not-for-profit organisation, to create paid, multi-year internship opportunities for Indigenous university students in Australia. We’ve committed to host 20 interns each year to help improve the participation of Indigenous Australians in the workforce and develop future talent.
Our Indigenous employee representative group, Dharrang, is led by a group of representatives and supported by a Senior Leadership Sponsor.
Dharrang’s purpose is to:
Represent fellow Indigenous employees in the business and give Indigenous employees a voice at Telstra
Foster understanding
Strengthen connection with broader Indigenous Australian community
Create opportunities at Telstra for Indigenous people
Indigenous Interview Guarantee
Increasing diversity happens one decision at a time. It’s all about getting the right talent in front of our hiring managers.
Did you know we have an interview guarantee process in place for shortlisted Indigenous candidates? This means any external candidate who identifies as Indigenous and is shortlisted for a role in Australia will be automatically offered an interview.
This means if any external candidates who identify as being Indigenous or living with a disability are shortlisted for a role, they will automatically be interviewed!
People with Disability at Telstra
At Telstra, we’re from diverse backgrounds, with a variety of skills and talents.
Diversity includes differences in background and life experience, communication and thinking styles, personal skills, education and expertise. It also includes other ways our people and customers differ, including gender, age, sexual orientation, disability, ethnicity and cultural identity.
We’re committed to being inclusive at all levels of the company – and this is backed by our values, cultural priorities and our Employee Diversity and Inclusion policy. We believe diversity fosters greater innovation, stronger problem-solving capability, greater customer connection, increased morale, motivation and engagement.
Our Disability Action Plan articulates our core disability commitments – to employees and their carers, to customers and to the wider community. It recognises the benefits that modern communications technologies bring to people with disability and the important leadership role that Telstra can play as one of the largest employers in Australia. We are proud to support candidates and employees who identify as living with a disability and help them to have a great career at Telstra.
