Our Values

The Made for More culture is our collective values and vision to have a business that is safe, enjoyable and productive.

WesTrac’s cultural transformation means re-evaluating the values and behaviours that bolster our success as a business and build reputation. After consultation with team members from all areas of our business, we launched SPARC values – a set of values that apply to every team member, every day.

SPARC is an acronym for safe, pride, accountable, respect, and customer. Having an agreed set of values has allowed us to set clear expectations, which in turn allows us to have fair conversations when those expectations aren’t met and celebrations when expectations are exceeded.

The foundations of the culture at WesTrac are our SPARC values which reflect our brand and business, whilst supporting of our future direction and vision.

Safety – Looking out for me and my mates

Pride – Demonstrating pride in our work, business and customers

Accountability – Taking ownership and responsibility for our actions

Respect – Valuing and acknowledging the views, achievements and differences of others (diversity)

Customer – Providing solutions, service and satisfaction to our customers

Wellbeing

At WesTrac, we live by our values and work hard to drive a high performance and supportive culture. We have developed a range of benefits enabling our team members to maintain a healthy work/life balance, so they can put loved ones first. Some of these include flexible work arrangements, 10 week’s primary paid parental leave, private health insurance discounts, and formal training and development opportunities. We also offer employee discounts for various retail stores, toolbox insurance and discounted Cat merchandise. The physical and mental health of the WesTrac team is significant to our overall wellness strategy, and we offer benefits such as an employee assistance program.

Meet Sophie

Sophie Millard – WesTrac apprentice

What are you most looking forward to?

I’m excited to learn more about underground mining operations and get the opportunity to do some field service work.

What has been the best part of the program so far?

Every day I’m given a job that’s new to me, no day is the same. I learn something new all the time and I love getting to work out how to fix/fabricate something different.

What are the best perks about being a WesTrac apprentice?

The biggest perk is wearing the uniform. It’s a privilege to learn my trade from such a respected company. I’ve always felt like an individual, not a number.

Supporting Women in the Workplace

WesTrac’s vision is to reflect the richly diverse communities in which we operate, and celebrate the diversity of our people who feel safe to bring their authentic selves to work.

In recent years, a key focus of WesTrac has been to encourage and maintain female participation across all aspects of the business, with the target of achieving 25% female participation by 2025. Initiatives such as the establishment of the Diversity and Inclusion Committee, our women’s Mentorship Program, targeted recruitment campaigns including gender targets for our biannual apprentice intakes, and Inclusive Recruitment Training, are all in place to help us provide an inclusive environment and meet our target.

Towards 2030, WesTrac will continue to seek to improve inclusion and diversity across the business and implement programs and initiatives aligned to our guiding principles

Supporting Women in the Workplace

At WesTrac, we’ve been working hard to improve the culture within our organisation. Part of this is ensuring family comes first, always. We’ve introduced benefits to give our team members a healthy work/life balance. These include flexible work arrangements, additional leave, parental leave, private health insurance discounts and company funded income protection.

Endorsed Employer for Women

WesTrac is an endorsed employer for women via WORK180 – who have reviewed our policies, processes and initiatives to certify that we are an organisation that supports diversity, inclusion and equality.

First Nations Peoples

To make a meaningful contribution to the full realisation of the rights of Indigenous peoples in the communities we operate in.

Our commitment to reconciliation is at the foundation of our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP). With our actions aligned to three pillars – Relationships, Respect and Opportunities. WesTrac is committed to creating meaningful and sustainable employment opportunities and relations with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and organisations.

We also acknowledge the value our actions can play in the reconciliation movement and improving the relationship between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and non-Indigenous people.

Community partnerships:

WesTrac supports the Carey Bindjareb and Olabud Doogethu programs. Carey Bindjareb provides industry training for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people engaged in
the criminal justice system, with our teams providing the Caterpillar equipment for the training needs and our People and Culture team supporting the participants with ‘work ready’ skills workshops.

Olabud Doogethu is providing training for indigenous Halls Creek locals to operate Caterpillar equipment. Both programs aim to help provide the participants with employment and career opportunities.

WesTrac also partners with Nudge, an organisation that works with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to place young people into jobs and traineeships.

WesTrac utilise the services of the Aboriginal owned employment agencies Six Season Resources and Asquith Workforces. We participate in employment forums including the Waalitj Foundation, Swan Districts Youth Expo and City of Swan Midland NAIDOC event to showcase the career opportunities at WesTrac.

WesTrac were one of six entities to assist the growth of Yunaga Civil & Earth (YCE), an Aboriginal owned and run civil and earthmoving specialist, by supplying heavy machinery as well as offering consultation services on the protection and conservation of Aboriginal heritage.

Internal activities/initiatives:

WesTrac continue to target Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants for our Apprentice Programs. WesTrac’s WA apprentice intake in FY21 saw 16 per cent identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people, with a 100 per cent retention rate and 10 per cent of our current apprentice’s identifying as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people. In NSW the FY21 intake saw 5 per cent identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.

The celebration of National Reconciliation Week and NAIDOC week each year across the organisation and supporting local community where possible is important.

We proudly fly the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags at our head offices in WA and NSW, year round.

KEY FOCUS AREAS
  • Having developed strategies and a strong established approach towards advancing reconciliation internally through education and awareness and within WesTrac’s sphere of influence including the communities in which we operate
  • Identifying and establishing employment opportunities and pathways for First Nations people
  • Identifying and establishing supplier engagement processes to increase WesTrac’s First Nations supplier pool
