IMPORTANT NOTE: This is an Expression of Interest (EOI) process only, which offers those interested in an apprenticeship with Powerlink an opportunity to find out more information and receive notifications about the formal application process.

Find a career that matters and lasts

In one of our four-year apprenticeship programs, you will work under the supervision of highly skilled and supportive tradespersons to complete your relevant trade along with a range of other qualifications such as a First Aid certificate, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate and high-risk work licences (eg. Elevated Work Platform).

As you learn from industry experts, you will play a hands-on role in delivering critical State-wide transmission services to 5 million Queensland customers; connecting Queenslanders to a world-class energy future. In 2025, we are looking to offer three apprenticeship streams based in a variety of locations:

  • Electrical Trade Apprentice – Brisbane, Gladstone and Townsville
  • Communications and Control Apprentice – Brisbane, Gladstone and Townsville
  • Transmission Linesperson Apprentice – Brisbane

What you’ll bring
  • Hold a current Queensland drivers’ licence (manual required or be willing to obtain).
  • You have your own means of transport.
  • Completed year 12 (or in the process of doing so) – unless you are a mature aged (over 21years of age) candidate.
  • Have a genuine interest in how electricity works.
  • You like being hands on.
  • Have a strong work ethic.
  • Team player with good communication skills.

You are passionate about exploring how electricity works, solving complex problems, safety and taking the initiative to get things done. You’re hands-on and love working away in remote locations, or you may want a career outdoors and working at heights (our Linespersons work on towers up to 80 metres high!).
