That stereotype of it being a boys’ club because it’s quite labour-intensive work simply isn’t true.
Hi, I’m Aleesha, and I work for Bridgestone as an Assistant Store Manager at our Rockley store in Queensland.
Bridgestone is a global market leader in the tyre industry, with a strong presence in every country. We’re also committed to sustainability, taking numerous steps to be environmentally friendly.
In my role as Assistant Store Manager at one of our largest commercial sites in Australia, I handle day-to-day operations, lead safety activities and audits, and support our staff. This includes exploring their future with Bridgestone and finding ways to support their growth.
My role is more office-based, which aligns well with my career path. While I have a lot of knowledge about the staff’s floor activities and tyre changing, my focus is on ensuring everyone’s safety and helping them work at their best capacity. What I do now—taking care of the staff—wasn’t what I initially envisioned as a career. However, after moving states and starting at this particular store, I realised it was a great company to work for and decided to stay.
I didn’t have a specific career path in mind but chose to follow the opportunities that came my way. My passion for working at Bridgestone has grown over time, and I’ve learned a lot about career development from within the company.
If you’re open to taking opportunities as they arise, people are more willing to invest in you and teach you the skills you need. When I recruit staff, I focus on the attitude they bring to work.
The culture at Bridgestone is the best I’ve experienced. We prioritise safety, and the safety culture here is exceptional. Everything revolves around ensuring everyone gets home safe at the end of the day. The workplace is also fun and light-hearted, with staff enjoying a good sense of humour while working.
That old stereotype of the tyre industry being a labour-intensive boys’ club just isn’t accurate. We have many females working on the floor in tyre fitting and in our corporate environment. Their input and diverse opinions are highly respected and appreciated.
