That’s exactly what happened to Andrew, who transformed a part-time job into his dream career as a Tech Expert in the Coles head office! Keen to follow in his footsteps? We don’t blame you; keep reading to discover how Andrew made it happen and pick up some insider insights on how you can start your very own Coles career journey today!

How it All Started

Andrew’s first role at Coles was in the customer service department (checkouts) at age 15. It was in this role that he learned the fundamentals of quality customer service, which proved invaluable throughout his entire career! Working in stores also taught him efficiency, teamwork, and how to deliver for customers, which are all super valuable skills, regardless of what industry you want to get into.

As Andrew progressed through roles in-store , payroll, and eventually into recruitment at head office, he experienced how transferable skills, new opportunities, and personal growth could lead to a long-term, fulfilling Coles career.

Building a Career at Coles

Andrew’s journey evolved from working in-store to  payroll, and then into recruitment at head office. Since 2020, he has found his niche in recruitment systems and HR technology, becoming a subject matter expert (or SME, for those in-the-know).

When faced with challenges, like leading large assessment centres, he received tonnes of helpful support from his manager, which helped him build confidence and grow into new responsibilities.

Now that Andrew works in HR technology, he focuses on system and process support and    helping colleagues learn new systems and skills. Essentially, he’s grown into an all-rounder and a go-to for other team members; talk about a full circle moment!

Andrew believes that “there is no such thing as a wasted education” and encourages all students to be open to opportunities. Every skill, process, and connection adds value, and adaptability is crucial.
