Mission, Values and Strategy

As a Catholic Health, Community and Aged Care provider, our vision is to excel, and to be recognised, as a continuing source of healing, hope and nurturing to the people and communities we serve. We do this through our values of Hospitality, Healing, Stewardship and Respect.

Heritage

Calvary was founded by six courageous Sisters of the Little Company of Mary, who sailed into Sydney on the SS Liguria on 4 November 1885 and established nursing services, a soup kitchen, a night refuge, a school for the blind, and a parish school; and providing social services. The Little Company of Mary pioneers had little knowledge of the healthcare legacy they would create. Theirs is a story of enduring care for the physical and spiritual health of so many Australians: firstly on the streets of Sydney and the rudimentary beginnings of home nursing; latterly and currently in the stewardship of some of Australia’s best-known and much-loved hospitals, together with a national Calvary health, community and aged care ministry.

The Spirit of Calvary

The Spirit of Calvary expresses how we care for each other, and how we care for our patients, our residents and our clients by ‘Being for Others’.

  • Everyone is welcome
  • You matter. We care about you.
  • Your family, those who care for you, and the wider community we serve, matter.
  • Your dignity guides and shapes the care we offer you.
  • Your physical, emotional, spiritual, psychological and social needs are important to us.
  • We will listen to you and to those who care for you. We will involve you in your care.
  • We will deliver care tailored to your needs and goals.
  • Your wellbeing inspires us to learn and improve.

Strategic Intent

Our strategic intent is that in five years’ time, Calvary will be the health, community and aged care provider of choice, delivering with equity and compassion integrated, safe and high-quality care appropriate to the individual’s needs. We will achieve this by placing our focus on four key areas of:

  • Quality and safety
  • Our people and working environment
  • Our resources
  • Partnering and planning for the present and the future.
